Lord Wandsworth College – Hampshire
New Build School, Hampshire:
Activate Energy were chosen to install this 9.84 kWp array to a new school building in Hampshire. 41 modules were mounted on console buckets and secured with ballast. Fortunately, the Main Contractor had a crane on site so we managed to take advantage and formulate a lifing plan. Additionally, we ordered the ballast in the form of 25 kg bags which enabled us to allocate the ballast accurately. As the materials were lifted to roof height, our team on the roof spread the weight across the roof rather than concentrating all the weight to a single area.
During the planning and design stage, a structural engineers was engaged to calculate the roof’s capability to take the weight of the ballast and modules. The photo shown is work in progress as cable containment is yet to be installed to accommodate the interconnecting DC cables. The inverter, a SMA Sunny Tri-Power 10000TL is mounted on the far wall with protection from the sun. The 9.84 kWp system is split over the 3-phase electrical supply but still qualifies for G83 post notification just like a smaller residential system in the home.
When this shot was captured, the building work was still being completed with the electrical supply still to be installed. Due to the lack of supply, the array had to wait to be commissioned into service.
